La Grande Parks and Recreation - Safe Routes to School Program presents . . . Wanted! Art for Calendars. Art contest for Grades K-8. Theme: School Zone Safety. Start November 8th and End November 22nd. Entries will be picked up at each school office. 3rd - 8th grade artwork must be no bigger than 11 x 17 and K-2 will be provided color sheets at their schools or upon request. Calendars will be free to print and a limited number will be available. Contact Jessie Wilson Safe Routes to School Coordinator jwilson@city of lagrande.org 541-962-0514.The district does not sponsor this event/activity/offer and the district assumes no responsibility for it. In consideration for the privilege to distribute these materials, the La Grande School District shall be held harmless from any cause of action filed in any court or administrative tribunal arising out of the distribution of these materials, including cost, attorney's fees and judgments or awards.
At approximately 8:30 am on Monday, November 1, Central Elementary became aware of a potential gas leak and evacuated all students to La Grande High School. After an investigation by Avista utilities and with the support of the La Grande Fire Department, it was determined there was not a gas leak. The district will be shutting down the HVAC unit causing the smell and repair parts are on their way. The weather inversion is not allowing the air to dissipate as it normally does. The district has a natural gas monitor in place and will be monitoring for gas leaks out of an abundance of caution. Students began returning to the building at 10:00 am.
